“We have a baby girl now,” I told my wife as we walked home with our new baby.

“Zowy, is going to be one stylish little girl,” Saffron replied, with pride in her voice.

Zowy cooed and smiled back as her mother promised her all the dresses and make-up any girl could want. Zowy was excitable and fun. Unlike her brother who slept all the time, Zowy played and wasn’t scared of anything.

The new baby didn’t steal attention away from Zachary. He demanded it and we gave it to him. I was so proud of my wife.

When I saw that Saffron was calling me at work, I knew something was horribly wrong.

“What’s wrong?” I asked without saying hello.

“It’s your mom. She’s gone. Come home,” I heard her.

She had died peacefully in her sleep. No pain, just in peace.

When I got home, Saffron told me what had happened. I was devastated and upset and I took my sadness out on Saffron and after a few days she became very distant. I knew I had hurt her and I never meant to.

I was one lonely man after Mom’s death. With her gone and Saffron mad at me, I had nowhere to go. I had said things to Saffron that I never meant. She is a great wife and has changed her ways tremendously for our family. I finally got the nerve up to apologize.

“I’m sorry. I think you’re an amazing woman and have overcome a lot to be my wife. I’m sorry I made you think you were anything less than the best.”

“It’s fine, Stan. I’m just proud to have you as my husband. Thanks for loving me.”

That was that. We made up as easily as we had fought. We celebrated that night after the kids were in bed. We celebrated the life we ha made and all the time we still had left.

I took off work for a few days after Mom died. I needed the time with the kids and Saffron needed the time alone and to work. She was picking up regular clients and worked hard to keep them happy. I never knew how much those babies loved me until I heard their little voices saying DaDa all day.

On my time off we threw Zach a birthday party. He turned five that day and the search for schools started. He was happy and excited about going to school.

The day he started he wasn’t so excited. He was nervous and didn’t like his uniform. In fact, he HATED his uniform. We got him off on the bus and Saffron called three times during the day checking on him. He was, of course, fine every time. By the time he ran off the school bus, he was excited again. He did his homework all by himself.

It didn’t take long for him to make friends. I found him at the park pushing a little girl on a swing. They were both smiling and enjoying their selves. Saffron thinks he is too young to have girlfriends, but I don’t. He has to learn sometime.

“Ni-Ni Mumm-mi”

“Night Night sweet heart.”

I loved watching my wife tuck in the kids at night. As much as she says she doesn’t like children, she has a special way with ours. I made a perfect choice when I married her.

Zach spent a lot of time with his baby sister. He loved her. He helped his mom in the mornings by entertaining Zo while everyone else got ready for their day.

Every once in a while, Saffron would have an incident at work and her clients would throw a fit. I thought it was funny, but Saffron hated when she messed up. I promised her that everyone messes up a few times while their learning.

Zowy had her fifth birthday and started school with Zach. He has two years on her and he started 2nd grade. Saffy promised her a make-over as soon as she had an opening in her schedule. Work had picked up and she was working all the time now.

We wanted to try one last time for a baby. We had been trying for about three years and just couldn’t conceive. The doctors told us to keep trying. We didn’t want fertility treatment with the fear of having multiples.  So, we were woohooing every night with an agenda. I was surprised when Saffy agreed to try again. I think she likes kids more than she thinks.

What will Zowy look like with her new make-over? Will Saffy get pregnant again? Find out next time.

Enjoy,

K
